Mr. Toby Gibbons has been Pilgrim's head principal since January 2022. Before becoming Pilgrim's head principal, he was an assistant principal at Narragansett High School from 2012 to 2020 and East Providence High School's head principal from 2020 to 2021. As of 2026, he has been a school administrator for 14 years. As a high school student, Mr. Gibbons attended Pittsfield High School and did a postgraduate year at the Williston Northampton School. In college, he attended the University of Vermont, graduated from Springfield College, and received a master's degree in school administration from Providence College.Â
In 2020, Mr. Gibbons was named the Assistant Principal of the Year by the Rhode Island Association of School Principals. Before becoming the distinguished school administrator that he is, however, Mr. Gibbons taught mathematics and coached sports at a variety of schools. As a math teacher, he taught "everything from Pre-Algebra to AP Calculus." As a coach, he coached boys' and girls' ice hockey, boys' and girls' soccer, baseball, softball, and golf.
Mr. Gibbons has enjoyed his experience as Pilgrim's head principal. His favorite thing about being Pilgrim's head principal is the students, stating, "I really connect with the kids. It reminds me of the town I grew up in." Additionally, Mr. Gibbons shares a bond with many of his colleagues: "The bonds are different. Some of them are just a friendship where we go play golf. Other times, it's a connection with our kids."
Fun Fact: Mr. Gibbons is an avid hiker and has participated in three marathons.
